The IGERT program sponsors domestic and international internships at academic, private or national laboratories. IGERT students are especially encouraged to participate in an international internship experience, made possible by a separate International Collaboration component of our IGERT Program.
Scott Montross went to the Polar Glaciology Laboratory in Brussels Belgium, July 5-August 9, 2008. The title of his project was, "Composition of Gases in Sediment-rich Basal Ice, Implications for Microbial Activity at -15C."
John Aston went to the Idaho National Laboratory in Idaho Falls, Idaho May 12 - July 4, 2008. While there, John worked with Dr. William Apel and Brady Lee to study the effect of metal and organic acid stress on protein expression of Acidithiobacillus caldus. In separate studies John examined growth and substrate utilization of At. caldus in anoxic environments.
